MY NEW HOME – MY NEW SOFA

Over the years I have learned that comfort sometimes comes before beauty. Now don’t get a big fright, I am not saying that I will only be walking around in a track suit or never will wear heels again. I am saying that a comfortable place for couch surfing was missing in my previous home and I was desperate for a change.

You might know this name from client installations. Bemz makes custom sewn covers for IKEA sofa’s and armchairs  in hundreds of high end fabrics. They recently also launched their furniture legs to be able to completely reflect your own personal style when it comes to your sofa. The process is easy. Wether you already have an IKEA sofa in your house or you are shopping for a new one, you simply just look up the sofa name and check what covers Bemz offers for it. You can order free fabric samples if you are a ‘touchy-feely’ kind of person like we are.

A new home was a clean slate so when we were deciding on a sofa for the house, I went a bit out on a limb. I chose a kids & couch potato friendly sofa at IKEA and because brown is back (it is very on trend at the moment) I decided to get on board, making our new sofa a warm and welcoming place to chill out.

You might have seen it in my home tour and on my Instagram feed already, it is a winner. This sofa is the perfect example of combining comfort, affordability and beauty.

IKEA BILLY’s BIRTHDAY BASH

It is someones 40th birthday and we are so happy to be part of the celebration!

Growing up, ‘BILLY’ was a household name as almost everyone had an IKEA’s BILLY somewhere in their house. The name, for once being not a typical unpronounceable Swedish one, allowed us all to refer to our shelving unit as a family member.

Already forty years ago, IKEA launched this set of flat packed shelves. Although officially named ‘Billy the Bookcase’, these shelves have been used for much more then just books.

The BILLY is a blank canvas for creativity. You can style it as you want and use it where you need it. Where 40 years ago it was a standard white version, BILLY now comes in a range of finishes and different sizes. Doors can be added, giving it a whole other look and feel. Even after all this time, the minimalist design allows it to fit in with every style.

We have chosen to celebrate BILLY’s 40th birthday by focusing on it’s versatility. A ‘who wore it best’ competition  where we worked with two differently styled BILLY cabinets. For both set ups we first created one cabinet from different units. As you can see, they have different widths and sizes. We deliberately choose to put the shelves on different heights to create a playful effect.

The first BILLY  shelf is an arty eye catcher in a living room. As the wall was already in a soft pink, we used the same color on the BILLY.  By leaving out the back side of the cabinet you get a sleek tone on tone effect. Some contrasting black, brown and burgendy accessories give the pink tones a bit more edge.  Furthermore you can pick and choose exactly which products you want to display. Our advise: Less is more.

The second cabinet is in a kids room. Again, we painted the BILLY in the same teal blue as the wall, leaving out the back side and playing around with the shelf hight. This blue goes so beautifully with natural colors and a rusty red. Add some storage basket, display some of their books and beautiful toys and you are ready to go

As you can see you can easily change the look and feel of the same BILLY by merely changing the color and playing around with the accessories. So now it is up to you to decide: Who wore it best?

Are you inspired to turn your BILLY into something unique? Play around with color and make a #shelfie. Tag @ikeauae for a chance to win an IKEA voucher of AED 350. The winner will be announced mid April on the @ikeauae Instagram page. Good luck!

ROOM INSTALLATION – YOUNG ADULT

Although time flies by so fast that we are practically thinking about our Christmas decorations again, we kicked off this year with a room for a young adult. We absolutely love doing adult spaces and have been working on quite a few lately. Due to the fact that we once started with kids rooms sometimes gives the impression that that’s all we do yet we love mixing it up now.

The space we styled last week is  for a 17 year old gentleman. We begun with a beautiful dark yet warm grey on the walls. As we have mentioned before, painting a wall (or if you really want to be bold: all walls) will instantly change the vibe of the room. For a young adult, this Elegant Grey (Jotun 1434) is a versatile, strong and steady color.

We are very eager to show you the custom made cabinet in this room. We are developing a few furniture pieces with the Live Loud Girl signature in collaboration with a local carpenter. Goal is to be selling theses furniture pieces and to use them in our room designs as often as we can. The cabinet is made a high quality plywood.  Basic yet sleek making sure this storage space and one of the key elements in the room.
The wall color, the natural wood and the deep red Rozenkelim rug for us is a winning combination. With the two loungers which were already part of the original room design, this side of the room will be very popular.

On the opposite side you can find the large bed with 3 prints. The great thing about prints is that it is one of the best ways to update a room. Whenever kids or adults grow out of something you can change prints without touching anything else. And with so many great designers out there, it is a matter of choosing your favorites.

Last but not least we added a little #LLGHacksIkea

With the use of just one leg of the Ikea FROSTA stool we created a holder for the burgendy &Tradition light which is in the same color as the custom made cabinet. The light is quit big for a wall light so we needed a holder on the wall to give it space to hang.
How? Just drill two small holes in the FROSTA leg, pull through the cable and reconnect the plug. This can obviously be done with other lights as well.
Are you inspired? Please show us your result on instagram and add #LLGHacksIkea

What a great start of the year we had with installing this beautiful space. The room is ready and we are fired up for the next installation…

LIVE LOUD GIRL – 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Blogs grow up so fast… I can’t believe it is already Live Loud Girls 5th birthday. A milestone that needs to be celebrated and we just happen to be very good at that!

When I started sharing my love for interiors on this blog in 2014 I had no idea I would be where I am today only five years later. And when people ask me how we did it, I can only say: I just started. And it involved a lot of instances where I thought: Oh… Ok!

Today Live Loud Girl is more than just a blog about me sharing my inspiration and love for interior design.
It has grown out to a hard working team where we manage multiple projects simultaneously. From styling to art direction, from single room to full home renovations. And I can tell you that we do not always know what we are getting ourselves in to. We have numerous ‘Oh… Ok!’ moments with every job. We have come to accept that it is part of our DNA.

We owe a lot of our success to social media, Instagram in particularly. It has not only been a place for us to share what we do, it has become a community. Via this channel we have also found and connected with a lot of our friends, fans and suppliers. From small start ups to established companies.

Zoe Rumeau is one of those incredible suppliers. The first time we worked with one of her brilliant products resulted in having one of our most Pinned photos ever!
And we understand why. Her art works add a touch of magic to any room which explains why we have been working with her pieces in many shapes and forms.

So we are incredibly happy and extremely honored to announce that Zoe has developed a product with us and for us to celebrate our 5th anniversary.
When we were deciding what we should do, we thought the ‘Oh… Ok!’, might sound like a weak spot but it actually became one of our strengths and is very appropriate.
It so describes the way we work at Live Loud Girl. We always have a plan yet the result is at it’s best when we need to use our spontaneity and creativity.

We invite you to come to our party on Instagram and enter this celebratory give away: an art piece by Zoe Rumeau which pretty much sums up Live Loud Girl’s character.
It took us 5 years with 315 blog posts and 3,316 Instagram posts and a gazillion emails and messages to get where we are today. Over that time our style has changed, the team has changed, I have moved twice, the office location has changed…
Yet our enthusiasm and motivation has not changed a bit.
On to the next 5!

PLEASE NOTE: If you want this piece of art on your wall and have no luck in the competition, send us a message on info@liveloudgirl.com as we have 5
EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITIONS OH OK of Zoe Rumeau  Live Loud Girl for sale too (€149 )

Stylist life is not always as you see it on the Blog and on Instagram… Please witness some of our many ‘Oh, OK!’ moments of the past five years

1. ‘The socket is under the bed’. ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 2. ‘For this  award shoot we would like you to hold a garden gnome in your Dubai Glitter outfit’. ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 3. ‘Flo, can you just stand here and hold the light until we are done?’ ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 4. ‘Why don’t we try and get one decent shot of the whole team’. ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 5. ‘Can you take the pillows to the office so we can shoot them later today?’ ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 6. ‘Bar, can you just wait here while I talk to that celebrity stylist?’ ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 7. ‘We would like to have you feature a Rusty Red wall in your house’. ‘Oh, Ok!’ | 8. ‘Shall we do a shot of this gorgeous Parisian staircase and pretend we had a long day?’ ‘Oh, Ok!’ |
